My name is Emily Anna Bridges of La Voce Mia Voice
Studio, Center City Philadelphia. I am a composer, singer and vocal coach
with almost a decade of vocal teaching experience. I started teaching
undergraduate voice lessons in 2002 at Penn while working on my PhD in
Music, steadily gaining students until I graduated a few years ago. There
was such a demand for my services, that I opened a private studio, which
has since blossomed into a full-time career. My students are from all over
the Philly metro area, are of various ages and professions, and come from
diverse musical backgrounds.
I am a classically-trained soprano who specializes in early classical
music styles such as medieval and renaissance, but I also have have worked
professionally with rock, jazz, blues, musical theater, cabaret, and
gospel styles. My students are singers in bands or small ensembles,
executives honing their speaking voices, intermediate singers going to the
next level, and new singers exploring their voices for the first time.
What they all have in common is a strong desire to make their voices
stronger, healthier, and more beautiful.
My teaching style is holistic, health-oriented, and aware of the deep
connection between the voice and personal identity. I offer my students
complete discretion and confidentiality, as well as a nurturing teaching
environment. As they progress, students see results in many areas of their
lives, as the voice is an intrinsic part of human self-expression.
Lessons are tailored to the individual student's vocal needs, and are
geared to support student goals and interests, so they range widely in
scope. As the process is unique for each student, we may explore any
repertory genre or style at the student's request, including voice work
such as public speaking.
At the core of the lessons are intensive exercises and etudes I've
developed and assembled from wide-reaching teaching styles. My pedagogy
draws from Bel Canto, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais method, and
vocology, among many other sources. I've combined all of the most
efficient materials specifically to strengthen the breathing apparatus,
get the voice closing properly to create sound in a healthy and
sustainable way, achieve clear and consistently resonant vowels, expand
range and power, while most importantly allowing the voice freedom to find
its own authentic and natural sound.
In addition to technical work, we also explore areas such as musical
interpretation, theatricality, connecting with audiences, defeating stage
fright, and improving body alignment in singing and every day life.
Students often have the opportunity to perform in front of small audiences
at studio recitals.

Private Vocal Instruction ~ By Allison Hutchinson
Individually Tailored Voice Lessons For All Ages
Styles include classical, musical theatre, sacred and more!
Lessons are scheduled on a weekly basis for 30 or 45 minutes. The
consultation is used to determine each students unique goals and musical
background. Following the consultation, vocalizes, warm-ups, exercises and
reperitoire are chosen keeping these things in mind. Although lessons are
different for each student, certain fundamentals are the same. Each
student will have the opportunity to focus on healthy breathing, vocal
technique, diction, ear training, and reading notation. In addition to
these things, theory and history may be incorporated into lessons if
desired.
Each student will have a notebook where I track weekly progress and
assignments. This notebook is a great tool if one wishes to review past
accomplishments and have a record of achievements. In addition to the
weekly lesson notebook, I compile a reperitoire list for each student.
This is a list, by genre, of performance ready pieces. This is a helpful
reference for future auditions.
My goal is to keep a high standard of excellence for a well rounded music
education, while keeping individual goals and desires in mind.

K E Querns Langley Bel Canto Vocal Studio
Professional Opera Singer & Voice Teacher Philadelphia~London~Italy.
I help students free the natural voice through use of Bel Canto technique
handed down through my teachers directly from both the 'Garcia / Marchesi'
and 'Lamperti' traditions. I help the student to understand how their
physical and emotional states affect the singing voice, and rectify any
negative impact. As a voice teacher, I explain the use of legato,
sostenuto (support) / appoggio and placement 'in maschera' through
demonstration and technical / physiological / anatomical explanations.
This allows the student to produce a free and clear tone, placed correctly
in maschera for proper tone projection and teaches correct breath usage /
control, without forcing or 'pushing'. The student will also learn the
respective vocal / musical styles associated with the vocal literature
performed. I am fluent in European languages and will coach in all major
operatic languages. So, the student will also learn to sing in a variety
of musical languages and styles. The Center City Philadelphia studio
serves the Philadelphia Metro area into South Jersey, including Atlantic
City, Avalon, Stone Harbor, Cherry Hill, Collingswood, et. al. Students
in this studio will have the choice to study with the principle voice
teacher, K. E. Querns Langley or with an Apprentice teacher at a reduced
cost. Either way, the students progress will be monitored and influenced
by K. E. Querns Langley, however in New York City and London all students
are taught by the principle teacher at either Steinway Hall or The Music
Studios in Marylebone.
From my studio, I have had students sing in first run several
international CD distributions London West-End Andrew Lloyd Weber
musicals, 2 taken for commercials and film and 2 with recording contracts.
T I teach anyone who has a desire to improve their singing voice in all
styles.
VOCAL TRAINING: Sherman Lowe - Venezia, Itaia; 2007-Current, Georgyn
Geetlein - Philadelphia; 1996-2008. Ken Woolham - Royal College of Music
London; 2002-2003, Susan Munzer - Philadelphia; '92-'97
COACHES: Joyce Fieldsend - La Fenice, Italia, Roberto Bertuzzi - La
Fenice, Italia, Lyndall Dawson - London
The vocal timber of tenor K.E. Querns~Langley closely resembles that of
the great Swedish tenor Jussi Bjoerling. Ken has a full round Heroic voice
with brilliant solid high-notes to a sustainable top `E` and a top `F` for
Coloratura! His teacher once lovingly exclaimed that the squillo in his
voice `could peel the paint off the walls.` He sings comfortably in:
Italian, French, German, Spanish, English and Neapolitan, and his
repertoire is primarily 19th Century Bel Canto & Romantic opera.

If one is looking for a voice teacher, what does one
look for? Well, how about a teacher that has maintained a forty year
career singing on the world's great stages. How about that teacher singing
bass, heldon-baritone and baritone roles for the last twenty-five years,
and still singing beautifully. Make no mistake, a mocicum of talent is
certainly needed, but to sing three repertoires for twenty-five years
requires a quality vocal technique. For thirty years I have been sitting
at the piano teaching voice. That's thirty years developing a methodology
that is has produced a long healthy career singing three repertoires. I
made my European debut as a bass, my Metropolitan Opera debut and winning
the Richard Tucker Award as a bass. In 1997-1999 I sang my first Wotans
and in 1996 made my debut at the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in the
role of Scarpia. A mediocre teacher perhaps might do some singing, a good
teacher may even establish themselves in a decent career, however, singing
three repertoires on the greatest stages in the world is proof positive
that the vocal student in search of teacher certainly has positive
direction in working with an accomplished artist. If I had to weigh my
successes over the last thirty years between my guys and my girls, the
scale would surely tip in favor of my girls. Come, study with the best.

Teaching Philosophy
I love singing and through my teaching I hope to instill a love of music and singing in my students. My goal is to help each student sing to the best of their ability by learning healthy technique. I think with focus and dedication on my part and the part of the individual student much progress can be made. My goal is to install in each student the abilities to sing beautifully and interpret and express each song they sing every time they open their mouth. I love being able to share the passion I have for performing and teaching to each individual I teach.

My teaching philosophy is simple - everyone has a voice
and therefore everyone can learn to use their voice in a healthy way to
the best of their ability. My teaching begins with proper posture and
breathing technique along with exercises to avoid tension and release the
voice. After this foundation is set, we begin to address specific vocal
issues and explore repertiore. I specialize in classical/opera/musical
theater but this technique lends itself well to other genres as well.
Develop your voice in a friendly, non-judgemental environment. All that is
required is a true desire to learn how to sing, so serious students only
please.
Students are welcomed to call or email me with any questions or to
schedule a lesson. Reasonable rates include student and block rate
discounts. Happy singing!
