Maria Christina Fakhoury

Spinto soprano Maria Christina Fakhoury's luminous voice
has been described as ''the colors of God'' (Federation Francaise de
l'Enseignement Musical). Yet beyond the glory of her singing, what has
perhaps distinguished her most is her almost magical ability to create an
unwavering emotional bond between herself, her music and her audience.
As a child, this native of Ashrafieh, Beirut, the older of two children,
sang in church and school, and envisioned a future as a music teacher.
Fortunately for audiences around the world, she found other ways to share
her love of music-and through her natural gifts, innate intelligence, and
hard work, her soaring voice has carried her to the heights of the
classical music world.
The range of Miss Fakhoury's repertoire spans three centuries from the
Baroque era to contemporary works. She has enjoyed some of her greatest
successes in repertoire ranging from Johann Strauss II (Rosalinde) to
Giacomo Puccini (Mimi, Madama Butterfly, Lauretta) to Georges Bizet
(Carmen).
She has similarly distinguished herself as one of our generation's finest
interpreters of Mozart (Despina, Pamina), as well as the bel canto operas
of Rossini (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) and Donizetti (L'Elisir d'Amore, Don
Pasquale, La Fille du Regiment).
In recital, Maria Christina Fakhoury has mesmerized audiences with her
unique artistry and vocal beauty; her luscious, well-supported vocal
gifts bloomed magnificently. Displaying great emotional maturity and a
seemingly unlimited vocal range, she melded effortlessly with her
character and made the magic happen, made the audience believe in a way
that happens infrequently even with the greatest of companies. With these
performances, the gifted Miss Fakhoury -- only in her early 20s -- could
be on the threshold of a truly brilliant career (Vicenzo Romano)
Still in her student years, Maria Christina Fakhoury has collaborated with
colleagues who rank among the world's most talented musicians. While
still in Lebanon, she studied with soprano Aline Aoun and Mezzo soprano
Galina Khaldiva then was directed under the full attention of baritone and
conductor Ira Spaulding.
Miss Fakhoury is presently in Florence, Italy studying under the wings of
known and loved Italian coloratura Susanna Rigacci.
