Also piano! You wouldn't believe the number of singer (and music
majors in general) who think that the piano requirements are just a
formality!

Your professors will expect you to take your studies very seriously.
We expect you to practice several times a week, if not daily. We
expect you to attend concerts and recitals and to listen to
recordings (sometimes there are specific requirements, but we always
expect that you will WANT to do these things!)

Most teachers expect you to learn your music outside the studio. You
would be amaed how many students don't! We also expect you to know
what each word means, and to know something about the piece (e.g. If
it's from an opera, which character is singing? What has gone on in
the opera at this point?)

Don't be afraid to ask questions. I'm not even sure what "Sure on
this Shining Night" is about! (I found the large work that it's
excerpted from, and I think it's about Heaven!)

Good luck, you have chosen a hard major!
