What do I do? I drink water mixed with an particular brand of instant tea sweetened with saccharin (sodium saccharin, recently taken off the "cancer-causing" hit list by the FDA). I can't handle large amounts of nutrasweet, but I've experienced no noticable negative side effects from saccharin.
This stuff is relatively low in caffiene, high in flavor (list of ingredients boasts "citric acid" as well as "natural lemon flavor), and it tastes wonderful to me. Lots of other folks would absolutely hate it, I'm sure. I've been drinking it for over 15 years, at least two quarts per day, usually three to four. I'm absolutely convinced it has saved my voice (I'm another allergy sufferer), not to mention helping maintain excellent skin tone and all the other "good things" that come from drinking lots of "water" each day.
I realize my artifically-sweetened chemically processed instant tea may kill me someday, but at least I won't die from dehydration! :-)
Cheers!
Lana
