I always think of Julia Child - the ultimate female falsettist :-)

Perhaps this cultural bias is responsible for the rich crop of
countertenors from England?

To complicate things still further - why do men speak in chest voice only?
I think this may be almost as unnatural as women speaking in pure head.
Out of the closet femmie gay men, who have no reason to assert their
masculinity in society, often speak in a mixed voice. Yet they are often
bass-baritones when they sing. Maybe most other men are afraid of
emasculization?

When I read out loud to my kids, I speak in a mix, or my voice tires
easily. I think it is also more comforting to young children to hear a
more higher range voice, perhaps motherly?
