Subject:  Re: [vocalist-temporary] RE: ADMIN: list moderation?

Okay, I'll throw my opinion into the mix here. I'm not
a fan of censorship. In addition to being opposed to it
in principle, one of the things I like about a list such
as this is that a fairly immediate discussion can take
place without waiting for someone to "okay" the
messages, which is what happens on Choralist. Between
those who post at odd hours, like me, and the list
members in different time zones, a moderator would have
to be pretty much glued to the computer (with a vat of
coffee) to keep up.

However, I also don't feel comfortable scolding fellow
list members privately for posts that violate that
(necessarily subjective) boundary of rudeness. Perhaps
this could be a public, on-list function that any member
could initiate - you know, positive peer pressure. That
tends to happen now only when posts have been way out of
line for an extended period of time, but maybe we could
agree to jointly nipping rude conversations in the bud.
