The newer antihistamines, unlike the older ones, carry no risk greater that
placebo for somnolence. Allerga, Zyrtec, and Claritin, for example. The
drying effect goes away in many, I have been on most antihistamines
for 20 yrs. This is one side effect that goes away in me.
