<quote>Post nasal drip is usually behind my experiencing a similar sensation.

It's amazing the things that trigger a response in our minds. It wasn't till I read this that something came into my head. If my ears are irritated by allergy or infection I get the worst itch in my throat. It drives me utterly mad. Absolutely nothing but medication to "dry it up" will help. (There isn't any obvious mucous like post-nasal drip usually is either.) That and of course trying to reduce whatever is giving me the allergic reaction of course. I use Claratyne, one of the non-sedating anti-histamines, I don't know what you call it in the States or UK or Europe. And despite this not being "good for singers" it still is less harsh, for me, than anti-histamines or psuedoephedrine.
This of course may do nothing to address Tako's problem, as it's something that I get not just on high notes, when I get it. However it stands to reason (if you live inside my weird head) that if the high notes or any singing for that matter, vibrate membranes and bone and cartilage, perhaps it therefore promotes a flow of mucous into the pharynx either from the nose and/or the ears, so then allergy may indeed be the problem. Food for thought at any rate.
Any one else have problems with their ears? Mine itch like crazy nearly all the time at the moment and I'm fairly certain its basis is in allergy.
Cheers
Michelle
