Subject:  Hi. Question on "nose holding"

Hi. I've read this list for a while, but this is my first post.

I've read on this group that you should be able to hold your nose
closed and sing, and not feel any vibrations (or any difference in
tone.) I take this to mean you shouldn't feel *any* vibrations,
although I'm not sure.

I *can* do this, but it's slightly different than my normal singing
in that I think I normally have a slight amount of vibration through
the nose.

My question regards: is nose-holding a trick common to all schools of
classical singing, and therefore always an improvement, or no?

I haven't had a voice teacher in a few months and nose-holding was
never a subject of my lessons-- maybe the vibrations have just crept
in, in the absence of a teacher.

Thanks for any help!
