Dear Vocalisters:
Muscle memory is a convenient and much used explanation of a wide variety of positive and negative effects in singing. It has the same position of honor and dishonor in that other most skillful activity, Golf.
But, does it really exist? Do the muscles of singing really have a memory of their own? If so, why should singers concern themselves with any kind of understanding of the workings of the voice. Just train up the muscles in way they should go and they will not depart from it.
I am interested in knowing any research that may have been conducted in this phenomenon. Any ideas?
