It seems the film takes place in the last months of Callas' life, and is the (fictional) story about a producer who talks Callas into filming several of her roles using the existant complete recordings. They start with "Carmen", there are several scenes from it in the movie (I saw a trailer on Italian TV) therefore the recordings are used throughout.
