Hi Martha,

Well, the Chelsea Flower show's a great show in
itself! At this time in London there's always lots to
see. You have an almost unlimited choice of things, as
Londoners are very fortunate to have more performance
spaces than anywhere else.

The season of opera at ENO will probably just be
closing, but then the English Festival Ballet will
take up residence. They're very good and do
interesting and diverse programmes. The Royal Ballet
and Opera will be in residence at the newly
refurbished Opera House. Worth a trip just to look at
the gilt and plush! The D'Oyly Carte Opera Co. will be
at The Savoy doing The Yeoman of the Guard. Cats will
have closed by then (I think it goes on May 21st so
you might catch it) thank goodness, because it looks a
very tatty old moggy now!! Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
will be the big new show at The London Palladium. It's
the most expensive show ever put on (apparently!) and
has a large cast of seventy. In all my years of going
to theatre in London, this is certainly the largest
ensemble I will have seen! Then there's Phantom, Les
Mis, My Fair Lady, Kiss Me Kate (fab!) saw that in New
York and London, although New York's was better! Lots
of concert programmes at The Royal Albert Hall,
Festival Hall, Barbican Centre, Wigmore Hall. And lots
of great plays at the National including South
Pacific. A couple of plays by Coward one of which is
Private Lives, and the other can't remember!! That's
about it from the memory banks at the moment. Lots of
plays don't stick around very long in London. One that
has of course is the Mousetrap; the world's longest
running play, and unmissable is The Woman in Black at
The Fortune.

I hope you enjoy your stay, and if I think of any
more, I'll let you know.

Best wishes,

Ian Voice wrecker to the stars!!
