Hello all,
Since there have been a lot of "What am I" questions lately, I decided to finally get my courage up and see what sort of opinions you might have. I'm a soprano in my late twenties, and have been studying for about seven years. Over my training, the lower end of my range has descended and descended, so that now I can sing over an octave below middle C - it's not pretty, but any means, but the tone is decent down to the D below middle C. Here's the problem - my upper range has hardly increased at all, especially in terms of sustaining notes. I can sing up to D6 and sometimes squeak out a E6, but they are most definitely "not pretty" and hanging on to them for any lenghth of time is just not an option at all!
So, what I'd like to know is......
1. Do any of the other sopranos out there have access to this lower register? (I imagine it's the complete opposite of whistle register)
2. Am I really a soprano (my tone is fairly light and my instrument is not huge, but adequate. I tend to find songs with a medium tessitura the easiest)?
I'm just feeling particularly frustrated of late and hope that someone out there might shed some light on my struggles......
Thanks in advance, Catherine
