Thank you, someone finally said it. I did not see South Pacific from the beginning (got in late from work). I thought about taping it, but then thought, it prbably will not hold a candle to the original. Well from what I saw of it (I had to stop watching, I couldn't stand it), it couldn't hold a flashlight to the original. Once I heard de Becque sing (if that's what you could call it), the shows minutes were numbered for me. After "Some Enchanted Evening" I had had enough and changed the channel, even though there was nothing to watch, I just couldn't take it. Unfortunatley I didn't get to hear Harry Connick, Jr. sing (at least he can sing). I switched back to it from time to time, but it was just no good. As for Glenn Close, I didn't believe her for an instant. Nellie Forbush is supposed to be a young Nurse, and Glenn is anything but young, and I didn't like her singing. So all in all I would have to give it a thumbs down. Give me the original any day (movie or broadway show).
