A couple of tricks/games which might work: 1. Play or sing a high note and then a low note and have the student describe in his own words what differences are perceived. Move to smaller intervals. Get him to identify which is higher/wigglier/whinier/whatever. 2. Sing harmonies to his drone. Get him to sing to your drone. He may find some notes work better than others. 3. If you can do 'harmonic singing', relate pitches to vowel sounds. 4. Play with the phenomenon of beat frequencies as an aid to tuning. This would be easier with a sustaining instrument, though it it even works with a vacuum cleaner. john John Blyth Baritono robusto e lirico Brandon, Manitoba, Canada
