I started my Master's when I was 28. I wonder if this line of thinking comes from working with instrumentalists, who, I would think, generally tend to be physically ready at an earlier age. I believe I read that pianists, for example, should start young because the muscles are more flexible and can learn the coordination more easily at a young age. Singers, on the other hand, can mature rather late, depending on the type of voice. So perhaps ideas that may be valid for instrumentalists just aren't valid for singers. I would think that looking at another school might be a good idea.
