susi,
one thing they could be experiencing is just a different activity in
their cords. something that is right or better, often feels peculiar and
thereby, wrong to a singer who has a misgiven notion as to what it might feel
like when ideal. you could have them 'encourage' the odd sensation (probably
one that feels like closing) and see if fighting it before was the cause fo
discomfort.
