True, but he wrecked his voice, and Stendahl said he was bl**dy awful. And Mozart's views on this transposition are not recorded.
I think you're point is good though. Sometimes transposition matters, sometimes it doesn't. I don't mind it at all in Handel, but I do in Verdi.
At least I am consistent in that I am inconsistent!
