At least 24 hours before a performance is a definite no-no. I build up way too much tension in the throat and have enough trouble talking afterwards, forget about singing. Of course, it may very well be different for women. I think the whole act tends to be a little more "physical" for men. Women tend to be energized after, while men are exhausted.
