The 50 person gospel choir which I was inolved with was very informal and the membership was very varied - all shapes and sizes, ages, colours and genders (we certainly had more than two of the latter). Our dress code was hotly debated, and we ended up with a formula which was accepted by everyone. It was: black trousers or skirt, tops to be either black or in a colour range from navy blue through to plum, no patterned fabrics. Visually it works well, giving enough cohesion without looking contrived. We forgot to prescribe footware, and some wayward souls turn up in glittery shoes, but the audience can't usually see them. The other aspect to bear in mind is that if you are performing on a stage or risers very short skirts are not a good idea!.
Regards to all, Helen Phare
