Dear Sara,
Know that sooner or later we all get a bad review! Unfortunately, we
have no control as to who reviews us and if that person has prejudices
against us, or the type of music performed, who the director is, if the
reviewer had a bad day, if he is a frustrated tenor, etc.
I had the honor of singing in a gala concert some time ago with Jerome
Hines and Rita Hunter. We received a review so malicious, so mean spirited,
that it was actually very funny to me. It was so ridiculous that I might
even post it at a later time so you all could have a chuckle.
I dealt with this insult by framing the review and placing it in my
bathroom.
Reviews are a part of life for the performer. The best way to deal with
reviews are to read them, critique them, keep a copy of the good ones and
quickly dispose of the bad or place them next to your toilet!

Regards,
Anita
