I must strongly disagree. Even though Arthur Schoep who wrote the
ornaments was a teacher at North Texas, and still lives in Denton, I
dislike the ornaments in the Paton volume. I know of no other voice
teacher who likes them. They seem unstylistic and crude for the most
part and do nothing to enhance the text or vocal line.
It seems to me that they are simply ornaments for their own sake. A
pity, really, because the volume is becoming standard. What is also
REALLY annoying is that the ornaments are usually written on the same
line as the principle melody, often making ignoring them next to
impossible.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
