I must say that if I tried this it would deafen me really quickly, or else
inhibit full tone production. What I often do is cup my hands in such a way
that I hear what is behind me, and thus reduce the more direct sound. Then
my voice bounces off the wall in front of me, goes into the room and comes
back behind and into my ears. I fancy that the slight delay is enough to
make it sound like there is a singer in the room, behind me, with my voice!
