My music history teacher at Mannes was Joseph Braunstein. (Do you remember
him from jacket notes for a number of Nonesuch Records?) I used some sources
he didn't approve of for a paper I wrote. He said, "You'll have a spurious
paper if you use spurious sources." It might have been Neumann I'd cited for
something he took issue with, but I'm not 100% sure.
