isabelle,

from what i remember from a book on exercise physiology i saw ten years
ago and have forgottent the title of, weight training can actually increase
flexibility in most cases and has no detrimental effect on it. the obvious
exceptions would be in the cases where bulk is increased to the point of
actually hindering motion. most people would be more at risk of having the
bulk from fat hindering motion as opposed to the bulk from muscle.

concerning the relationship of fitness to singing, i think there is very
little other than in finding everything better when fit and everything worse
when not. i think the people who complain of losing their technical
abilities when losing weight are probably those who rely on a singular method
to sing rather than on an understanding of singing (these are probably the
same people who have to have the planets aligned correctly or they can't
sing).

if they had really lost weight, why didn't they adjust as they were
losing? it is a long process (or did they just throw all that fat out the
window one day?). now that i think about it, i'm surprised they even
noticed a difference. that's very suspicious.
