Amen! I had the same reaction to her after hearing that song several
zillion times when it was popular. However, several years after that, I
heard her singing jazz, which I think is her proper milieu, and it was
wonderful. I've always felt sorry for good pop singers who came of age
during the late 60's and 70's, because there was just no place for them. I
think she got stuck in that, and I think Toni Tennille and Karen Carpenter
got stuck in that. I've always said about all of them that I loved their
voices, but hated the music they were doing.
