Subject:  Dr. Speech Real Analysis Software

Dear Listers,

I have been lucky enough to obtain this software program from my
voice teacher. He bought it with some money set aside by LSU for
pedagogy. It's costs somewhere in the ballpark of 2 grand. Anyway I
loaded it on to my laptop. In a word, this stuff is AMAZING!!!
It's all in 'real time' too- you sing, its shows it on the
screen. From what I've heard it's one of the best spec programs
available for the price. Not many of us have 15 grand(and more) for
the Kay-Elemetrics stuff Miller has.
With this program you can analyze in: FO extraction, Intensity,
Histogram, Power Spectrum, LPC Spectrum(for formants), and Vowel
charting.
I rigged up my MD recording of my recent voice lesson and
charted the position of all my vowels. I then threw in some Corelli,
Bjorling, and Pav and charted their Power Spec and vowels. I have not
gotten much sleep in the last few nights because I've been addicted to
this program.!! It's in a totally different league from the
downloadable programs on the web.
This is the first time I've used this equipment on my own
voice. I'm glad to see that my technical work on vowels has really
paid off- according to the analysis. It's a fun new toy. But, it can
never replace the ears of a fine teacher:)

Take Care All,
