to me 'hooty' describes the sound made by an owl. i wouldn't describe
marilyn horne as sounding 'hooty'. maybe more like 'gargley', resonantly
'gargley'. and to me, a tuning fork sounds more like silverware hitting the
floor, not 'hooty'. (this calls for spectral analysis. we do have an owl
living in the woods out back...)
