i think you have to realize that your relationship with your teacher is a colaboration. actually, if you think about it, your teacher is your employee. more often than not, students do what their teachers say as if they were slaves of the teacher.
it is obvious that you do not like what she has had you doing and that you are not going to be happy for long doing it. you have to make this clear. your teacher may be using the yawn thing to try to solve a problem rather than trying to create that sound. if this solution doesn't work for you, your teacher may have other ideas that do.
in the long run, it is your voice and you have to live with what you do. if this teacher can't help you sing the way you wish, you need to find another one but, before it gets to that, this may be the right teacher if you give her a chance to be so by telling her exactly what you think. teachers can only read your voice not your mind.
