Dear Wim
Thank you for the background. I have followed Dr Miller's writings for some years now and had the pleasure to read his thesis earlier this year and found it very interesting.
The literature I have reviewed and my own (limited) experience of EGG suggest that it is rather difficult to use with female voices, due to a number of technical limitations. My request for references following your paragraph:
>However, there is ample evidence that the vibrational pattern of >the folds stays the same as the male voice goes into 'head'. >There is vertical phase difference and a large closed >quotient in male head voice and also the shape of the >electroglottograph signal is the same as in chest voice.
was precisely that. I did not mean to imply any question other than a request for the references, as I should like to compare the methodologies and findings firsthand to explore the application for female voices. I have for some time theorised whether the difference between head voice and falsetto is the presence of a mucosal wave due to differential tensions within vocal fold layers. Your paragraph suggested to me findings that I have not so far been able to obtain. I shall take the opportunity to re-read Dr Miller's thesis in greater detail. Thank you.
Best wishes
Sally
