They do (in WI, where Lisa and I are both located). You are required to go to a presentation of how to judge, to do trial judging and discuss your ratings.

In order to be a judge in Sweet Adelines International, you have to qualify through the official judging program and become a Certified Judge. This involves a lengthy training, including quite a bit of experience as a trial judge. At every regional and international competition, you will see the table with the judging panel and right behind them a second table with the trial judges. It's a great program, and many other musical organizations would do well to consider following that example.
