My rule is always to get as close to the singer as possible. I'm there to
hear the singer, not the hall. I want to hear the true size of the voice
and to see their technique in action.
I find that part of the experience highly educational, even when the
performer has flaws or deficiencies (as we all do :). The flaws are part of
the education too!
