A friend of mine who teaches has also had the same experience with half-witted choir directors. They had impugned her studio saying to more than one student "Your voice will be ruined" because they were not making the sound the choir director believed to be best. These choir directors were grievously misinformed. This amounts to an attack on a skilled professional's integrity and income. I would confront this person immediately about what is coming back to you as the teacher and about his own lack of technical proficiency in this respect. For the good of your students and your studio face him off. He will back down if you show some spine.
Best of luck.
