Thanks Cynthia, for your advice. I have already done most of what you
recommended. I know many people in the department and have made the
inquiries about taking classes as a non-major. These two classes are what I
have to choose from right now. I have taken lessons from the diction
teacher who teaches both of these classes, so she knows what I can handle.
She has advised me that either would be fine for me and does not recommended
one over the other. She says the trade off is intense one-on-one singing
and feedback in English diction versus IPA in French diction, plus the fun
of singing in a new language since I haven't attempted singing in french.
On paper English is Diction II and French is Diction IV, but in reality, one
can take either without prerequisites. I have a minor in French Language
so it would not be over my head even though it is considered "more
difficult" by its designation as fourth in the series. I already have
graduated (with non-music degrees) so courses required for my major is a
mute issue. I'm taking courses as a "returning adult"(ack!) who isn't
pursuing a degree.

Does that change any of what you would advise me?

Thanks again,
Sandra
