no one on the pga tour drives the ball 350 yards unless it is the freak occasion. anyone who drives the ball 350 feet is going to have a hard time breaking 100. as an avid golfer with a single digit handicap, i can say with some certainty that it is the third shot (on a par 4 hole) that is the most critical, not the drive.
lloyd, a better golf analogy for your point would be to the use of graphite shafted, titanium headed drivers as opposed to the use of hickory shafted, persimmon headed drivers.
