Try Alfred's Folk Songs for Solo Singers; Firedside Book of Folk Songs (you
may find this one in your local library); or 40 Songs for a Better World,
Hal Leonard. I will also sometimes have kids sing a hymn or a contemporary
song from the Celebration Hymnal or any other hymnal (if they're Christian
church kids). Simplicity is the key at first and just to get them singing.
I teach only teens and I've found they get really discouraged if they don't
sing right away, so let them do it.
