i studied with joan heller for a couple of years. she was always
performing contemporary music. one of the things that seemed to be a real
asset to her in this repertoire was her 'freak show' level perfect pitch.
(she once did an arrangement of a spiritual that began unaccomapanied for
about two minutes. when the pianist came in, her perfect tuning with him
was magic.) do you happen to know if ms. berberian had perfect pitch?
