Very well-stated post, Lloyd. The paragraph quoted above reminded me of a short film that was presented on Saturday Night Live in one of its first years. It was a rendition of the song "Misty", but every couple of bars, they'd cut to a different person doing his own rendition. They went back and forth between five or six different performers, and it was a really interesting showcasing of the idea of personalization of a song.
