I agree with Tina that the problem of hearing oneself
(inside the head) as being very loud, while everyone
else complains of inaudibility, is probably one of
placement. There are teachers who hate the concept of
"forward placement" or frontal singing, and there are
teachers who love it. Both ways work and there are
famous singers out there talking about both methods,
so don't be put off by the fact that there are bad
teachers in each camp.

To the original poster: do you have a voice teacher?
Ask around, take a bunch of sample lessons with
different teachers, and ask each of them what their
teaching concepts are. Go for one who talks about
placement, forward, focus, etc.

Suki -- how did you teach yourself to speak in a
forward manner? With a speech therapist? I have
gotten around the whole talk-sing issue by being a
relatively quiet person (I mean, out loud... maybe
that's why I write so much).
