Here's the sound-proofing thing that was posted before.

Let me know if you try it!

Dear List:
A dear friend used the following in his quest of fixing the soundproofing
problem. He was kind enough to send it along even though he is
overwhelmed with tax season (sorry for the swearing) and won't have time
to even breathe until April 16, 2000.
Best,
Rosalind (with thanks to Gordon. I will fwd yours to him.)
Hi,
Here goes.....
Materials: Empty tennis ball can (metal in those days; today they use
plastic which still may work but I'm not sure).
Small cardboard box about 3 inches bigger all around then the can (construct
it if necessary)
Cotton

The cotton should surround the can and the box should surround the
cotton.
The can should stick out of the box by 2 or three inches. Place end of
the
can over your mouth and sing away. The sound will go down the can to the
bottom where it will meet with cotton which should absorb most of it.
The
vibrations in the can will still give the singer an approximate sound and
feel of the tone as an audience would hear it. To change the feel, use
more or less cotton and/or have the can pertrude more or less out of the
box.
