Is there something here about the SFO orchestra that should be
considered?

When reading the SF Examiner's critique of SFO's Baby Doe - I recall
the writer mentioning the orchestra's brass section overshadowing
some of the singers. Now, your observations of Hvorostovsky's
struggles to be heard over the orchestra. He's done outstanding work in
Lyric of Chicago's immense Civic Theater & at the Mecca of Opera:
The Met. The question I have is it squillo or is it an overexhuberant
orchestra?
