Hi, gang --
Now that I've blabbed my guts about my personal history, I have a request. I have a five-week trip through Italy coming up next month, so I'll be gone during most of November. Is there someone who would like to be co-moderator of this egroups list? It takes no time or effort at all, just someone who checks email reliably every day in case of emergencies or subscribing problems -- but I don't want to just take off without giving someone else the power (such as it is -- the group really does run itself), in case something happens while I'm gone.
And a personal request. This is partly a pleasure trip, but also a mission to scope out the Italian scene for possible houses to audition for in the next couple of years, as I get ready for the next step (performing in small houses) in the training process.
Does anyone know anything about this process? I have friends in Germany and there are books about that auditioning market, but I'd rather to go Italy... unfortunately, I don't know anyone close to the opera scene there. Do they have lots of small houses, and can any old foreigner just walk in and audition for the season, or schedule an audition for whenever they do hear people (perhaps fall and spring, like German houses)? Are you even allowed to perform in Italy as a young American? Has anyone been to lovely little theaters they fell in love with and would recommend I visit?
Getting there is not a problem, and flying back and forth between roles or auditions would be okay... I just don't know where to start looking. Track down little opera companies in small towns in Umbria and knock on the impresario's door? Find an agent or manager, someone who knows the situation and can arrange for auditions? Do they exist, for the Italian market?
I thought I'd ask for help. Help!
Isabelle B. (who plans to do a *little* honeymooning on this trip, too) :)
