tinaO,
roger quilter's 'elizabethan songs' (close on the title) have some possibilities. the one that goes 'come, oh come my life's delight...' might be good. yeletsky's aria 'ya vas lyublyu...' from pikovia dama might be good (it has been a while so, i can't remember if it is too much begging or not). there is a lot of early twentieth century english stuff that's very pretty, in english and very romantic and non-dairy. quilter, butterworth, john ireland and even holst and vaughn-williams that might be very nice.
