Hi Pat:
To add emphasis to the great advice from Mike, spend some time in your private practice with your "choir voice" so that you are using it in a healthy manner. Here in the Vancouver Chamber Choir, we don't spend a lot of time worrying about blend, rather we work on balance. As long as everyone is singing the same vowel, producing (relatively) the same amount of acoustic energy, and singing in a healthy manner, blend does not become an issue. However, if someone sings out of the norm with an excessively non vibrant sound, a breathy sound, a pressed sound, a vibrato which is too fast, too slow or too wide, or disregards dynamics and/or articulation, then there is a problem which is usually dealt with swiftly!!!
