--- Hi gang!
I have an interview tomorrow for a teaching position at a public high school. They apparently already have 2 private voice teachers who come in, but have gained so many new choral students, they need someone for 1 - 2 days a week. I have done this before, but the choral director told me to bring my "teaching materials" and said that he would have a student come in for about 10 minutes for me to work with.
I plan to bring in the song books I use for beginning and intermediate students (I don't give high school age students books about technique. I think they have to come to an innate understanding about how *they* sing best before they need to know about the theory of technique.) But, I'm concerned about this little 10-minute lesson. Does anyone have ideas on what I should concentrate on? It always takes time with a new student to understand how he/she works best, how much he/she understands, etc. The director suggested maybe I have a song from "Sound of Music" for them to sing. Would this be a better idea than vocalises?
I teach primarily instinctively, based on what I hear is already there, so I don't have a specific program that fits for every student, and I don't really believe in quick-fixes.
Help.
