Yes of course! I liken Tet to a young Shirley Bassey! They both 'go' for the note with gusto, but neither has the technique (or, in the case of Miss Bassey) the sensibilities to carry it out. In other words, the note is absolutely glorious, and then goes haywire, thin, or disapears into a reedy head voice.
Do not get me wrong: I love Tetrazzini's singing; you always get the impression that she loves every minute of it! However, the so called (I say so called, because my first teacher heard her live and said it was rubbish!)icy tones of Melba are much more telling, declamatory, sustained and controlled, and, altogether, more musical!
That's all I meant really, no more, no less!
