I wanted to wait to post this until I had contracts in hand, but they came yesterday, so here I go:
I've been cast as Pilar in Hiram Titus' ROSINA (a sequel to MARRIAGE OF FIGARO) at the Skylight Opera Theater here in Milwaukee. It is the comic role of the landlady - haven't received the score yet, so I don't know just how much I have to sing, but it's a weekly salaried role as opposed to the chorus hourly wage/per performance fee, so it's obviously not a role that doubles as chorus (better check the contract just to make sure). Rehearsals start 2/26, we open 3/23 (I think) and close 4/8.
I also received a call from the Milwaukee Symphony this week asking me to sing in a trio for a pops concert to be held 10/21-22-23. We will be singing Jerome Kern's "Bojangles in Harlem".
The great thing about both of these gigs was that I received phone calls without any warning from the companies - I did not audition for either of these jobs, and in fact, Skylight declined to hear me this year at both their fall and spring auditions (which depressed me greatly at the time). The second job was a referral from a director for whom I did a freebie last summer in an Irving Berlin revue (she's also one of the singers in the trio).
It has taken 4 years for me to be cast in an opera with an existing company in this city (I did Dorabella last year with a company just starting out). I just feel so relieved!!!
