the more you obsess about things that have nothing to do with what you are intending to do with your singing (and hopefully, what you are intending has been selected from the more reliable of your abilities) the more nervous you will be. if you are worried about drinking water before you sing (the second most important element to your survival), imagine what the dust in the hall will do to you (obviously, you don't want to drink so much water that you start peeing all over the place but, we can assume you have some sense).
unfortunately, you'll probably get about 75% of your normal ability, at best. if you get more, make the most of it (wishing it doesn't make it so). you have no control over what anyone else will do.
if your nerves affect you physically, you probably need to blow off that extra energy. do some exercise that day. don't try to relax before you sing, the contrast, when you walk on stage will, by contrast, make things worse. instead, try being playful (bouncing a ball, throwing a frisbee, etc. theater people do physical warm-ups and are generally less nervous than music people). if all else fails, try beta-blockers, remember what it feels like, then get rid of the pills.
again, good luck, mike
