oak,

let me suggest the possibility that the thai singer you were listening
to may have been singing in 'falsetto' too but, was doing something very
different with it from what david daniels does with his. imagine, if you
will, the difference in sound the same set of guitar strings would make on an
acoustic guitar and an electric guitar. the vocal folds make a sound that
can be made into a number of different things by a singer's resonators.

compare the beegees (ed. 'yuk') or curtis mayfiled to mr. daniels and,
though they all are singing in falsetto, you'll notice they sound very
different.

by falsetto, i mean the 'girl voice' as a student of mine put it. that
high squeeky sound, with no adduction, i would call whistle voice because
that is what is happening- whistling through the vocal folds.
