So true. It is an audience's perception which is everything. If the perception is of truth, then communication is good, and they are moved, and WHATEVER the actor is doing is right from that standpoint. If the perception is that the performance is fake or false or that there is no communication, then there simply isn't, regardless of the effort or lack of effort on the part of the actor or singer.
